For today’s Friday Flashback I’d like to take you back to the year 2000 at the MTV Awards. Britney Spears hits the stage singing part of “Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones before stripping out of her black pantsuit into a revealing and sheer glittery outfit.

From there Britney bursts into “Oops I Did it Again”. I have to say, as much as I’ve been enjoying the video clips from the Circus Tour, her dancing back then was just epic. I always loved watching Britney dance, her choreography is just amazing.

Also, and this may just be a sign that I’m reading and watching way too much Michael Jackson footage lately, you can really see some of his influence on Britney in this performance. The way she’s dressed (especially the hat) at the beginning and the way she dances before stripping down is so very much his style. Amazing how much he affected the big stars of today!

Today it’s a holiday where I live so Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians! In light of the holiday I thought I’d just go for something fun today. This girl is a serious makeup pro, she knows how to re-create all kinds of celebrity makeup looks.

In this video she teaches you how to mimic the eye makeup that Britney Spears used in her video “A Piece of Me”. With fun summer outings looming ahead, it would be a great look for an evening out!

Britney Spears is being coy, teasing her fans a little bit. She posted to Twitter yesterday with a hint at changes to come, saying “New leg, new song, new outfits, new do…. -Britney”

Well, we know there’s a new leg and we all saw the hot new ‘do. What will the new outfits look like? And most importantly to me, what’s the new song?! It makes sense to change things up on a long tour like this one. Not only does Britney have to perform the same show over and over, with YouTube fans can see parts of the show before they go in person, so adding new songs (or remixing some) is a fun way to shake it up.

Britney Spears was spotted looking very different in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon. She was out with her boyfriend Jason Trawick but what was most noticeable was that Britney has gone brunette!

I haven’t figured out if it’s just a wig for a temporary change or if she’s actually dyed it brown, but I am loving it! It looks so rich and healthy and it really suits her. It’s fun to change your look up a little from time to time, and this is a great color.

As I posted the other day, Britney Spears had a chance to perform with Michael Jackson several years ago. In light of his passing, she made this statement to Larry King:

“I was so excited to see his show in London. We were going to be on tour
in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I’m devastated he’s gone!”

It’s still such a shock for so many of us but I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for those who actually got a chance to know him personally.

In related news, some idiots are posting around the internet, making up phony celebrity deaths. According to a few posts I’ve seen on Twitter, some people are trying to state that Britney Spears has also passed away. The original posts in question have been removed, but please - if you hear this rumor don’t be alarmed as it’s completely untrue!

Britney Spears was seen enjoying some retail therapy in Hollywood today while she celebrates a bit of downtime between concert obligations. She shopped it up with some friends, going in and out of several L.A. stores.

Britney’s look is interesting here. She’s showing off her super-toned legs (courtesy of all that dancing lately, I’m sure!) in ultra-short denim hotpants topped off with a purple tank top. What really catches your eye though, is her footwear, a pair of pink boots that look like they’re fleece-lined. That’s not what I could imagine wearing in Los Angeles in the summer, but she looks comfortable at least!

Britney Spears brought the Pussycat Dolls on tour with her for the first leg, but when she brings The Circus tour back to North America later this summer she’ll have some new opening acts for fans to enjoy.

Kristinia DeBarge and Ciara will be the opening acts when Britney comes back to North America on August 20th. Both are very excited to be joining such a massive pop sensation.

Kristinia said:

“Joining Britney Spears for her Circus tour will be an amazing and surreal experience. I have been dreaming of an opportunity like this forever, and can’t wait.”

Meanwhile, Ciara had only good things to say as well:

“Everything about Britney Spears makes you like her. I feel like she’s a star. She’s got that energy that’s just magnetic. She just glows. It’s not just one thing about her that makes her cool.”

Britney Spears took to Twitter yesterday after news hit that Ed McMahon had passed away. Ed was a Hollywood icon, notably for being “second banana” to Johnny Carson but was a star in his own right and hosted Star Search which gave Britney the boost she needed to start her rise to fame.

Britney posted the following to Twitter:

I am deeply saddened by today’s news about Ed McMahon. He is responsible for giving so many artists their first shot including myself.

[...]

He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. -Britney

The news is so sad to so many of us, but to those who knew him personally he will be missed even more. I’m sure Britney is remembering him well.

Britney Spears has already been spotted in Los Angeles doing a little bit of shopping, but she’s just on a very short break. She was back in town after performing her Circus tour in Dublin and will be headed back out to complete her European tour. Of course she also has the Australian tour as well as coming BACK to North America for even more shows. A little retail therapy sounds like a good way for Britney to relax in between all her hard work!

Here are some video clips of Britney performing live in Dublin a few days ago. The first is her performance of “Womanizer” - I love how you can hear what sounds like the entire auditorium singing along with her!

This clip is really short, it only features about 30 seconds of “Radar” but what I like about it is that the YouTube user said that Britney’s sons were in the audience in front of her and you can see Britney making faces at the boys while she’s dancing.

Everyone seems to have said that the Dublin shows were amazing - I’m glad they enjoyed Britney’s Circus Tour!

In a rumor that is almost as persistent as the (allegedly false) rumors that she’s engaged to Jason Trawick, people keep talking about how Britney Spears is supposedly set to star in another movie.

Although her first film, Crossroads didn’t exactly win critical acclaim, Britney has never ruled out acting again. In this latest bit of gossip, Britney would star in The Yellow Star of Sophia and Eton. The story is set during World War II with Britney playing Sophia, a young woman who builds a time machine and travels back to meet Eton, a Jewish man in a concentration camp. The two fall in love and then travel forward to Sophia’s time so that they can marry.

It is so hard for me to write that without laughing because man, that sounds like a really bad story line, kind of like The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (which was excellent) gone really wrong.

Honestly, I can only hope this story is false. I love Britney Spears but as a singer and performer. She doesn’t need to act to keep us interested. And if she really does have her heart set on acting again, let’s at least hope she holds out and waits for something better than that!
