Why is Britney’s burial plot a big deal?

Lately I’ve been reading several posts talking about how Britney Spears picked out a burial plot for herself this past weekend. The story seems to be that she has been reading books about one of her idols, Marilyn Monroe, and that she decided to buy herself a burial plot in the VIP area of the Hollywood Forever Cemetary just like Marilyn. Reports say that Britney often visits Marilyn Monroe’s grave.

If we can even assume this is true - it was first reported via a “source” in Britain’s Daily Star, so you know, it’s not exactly a fantastic and reliable news source - why is this a big deal? So many people talking about it seem to be making references to Britney as the “troubled singer” who bought herself a grave. The words, when strung together like that, seem to imply that it’s weird and creepy, and potentially a bad sign.

This is not unusual. Many people buy burial plots rather than letting their surviving family members choose a location after they’ve died. My parents have owned a burial plot for decades now, because they wanted their graves to be in the same cemetery as their own parents. My mother and father aren’t “troubled” they’re just regular people. It’s not strange for Britney to have done this.

I am so glad I’m not a celebrity. I love reading about the stars I enjoy, but I would be so annoyed to have every last thing I say or do over-analyzed to death (pun intended).
